Major styles of work modalities used by Charlie

Massage Therapy

Charlie uses a holistic massage approach, which grows out of his study of holistic philosophy. It is viewed as a healing art form - working together on a physical and non-physical level to improve one's health on all levels: mind, body, and spirit.

This can involve breathing work, learning how to unwind or deal with muscle tension and pain, and appreciating the body as an energy system - all grounded in a good quality massage experience. Charlie has studied most of the popular forms of massage, such as Swedish, neuromuscular therapy, sports massage combining techniques as they meet and address clients preferences and circumstances.

Charlie's clients are often impressed at the massage experience they receive with him, and have frequently commented that it was one of the best massages that they have had. A good massage is deeply relaxing and revitalizing, and continues to be one of the nicest things we can do for ourselves!

Fees for Massage Therapy: $75 per hour; $110 for 1.5 hours; $140 for 2 hours.

Home/Office Visit

Upon request, Charlie may be available for a session at your home, hotel or office. Home or office visits start at $90 per hour and go up depending on availability, distance, travel time and time of day.

Trager

Charlie became a Trager practitioner in 1995 after extensive study through the Trager Institute. Trager is the life work of the late Dr. Milton Trager, who developed an unconventional form of touching and movement education. The core of the approach is based in Dr. Trager 's belief that to address blocks in our body, we must do so through the unconscious mind. If you can work in a soft and rhythmic enough fashion, or learn to move in a different way, you can make a tremendous impact on healing and changing oneself. To this day, Trager work remains one of Charlie' s favorite experiences. It combines soft but focused rocking, compressions, and feeling and loosening the tissues.

Trager is an approach to life. The sessions last approximately 1.5 hours.
Consider experiencing this work, as it is a beautiful and deeply enriching form.

Hot Stone Massage

This technique utilizes hot stones with an occasional cold application to deepen the experience of a good massage. The stones are used as an extension of ones hands, having an energy of their own and providing a thermal effect; releasing and flushing fluids in the body. Consider experiencing a hot stone massage during one of your treatments.

Fees to include hot stones: $85 per hour; $125 for 1.5 hours; $160 for 2 hours.

Foot Reflexology

It is an ancient system of massaging areas/zones of the feet that refer to different parts of the body. Charlie always incorporates some foot reflexology in his sessions, but you can treat yourself to an entire hour of this method and you will be amazed at how relaxing it is and the positive effects you will feel from having your feet concentrated on in this way!

Fee: $75 per hour

Watsu/Aquatic Bodywork

This is a relatively new form of holistic massage/bodywork created by Harold Dull in California, who, for the past several decades, has refined a technique performed in 94 degree water that is both gentle and deep at the same time.

Imagine drifting afloat in warm water, with muscles melting, your mind calming, your spirit opened and free. No time but the present. No sounds but the water. Sensations of support that allow your body to relax more and more. Watsu has an impressive range of clinical applications and benefits to address pain, stress, fatigue, muscle tension, and emotional issues. Whether for stress reductions or rehabilitative concerns, come float and experience this phenomenal work, in which the practitioner slowly moves the client through the water, utilizing stretching and massage techniques.

Charlie became a Certified Watsu Practitioner in 1999 and continues to study and pursue this work. Charlie has his own outdoor pool which is available from May through September. He also works out of Morristown Memorial Hospital's indoor therapeutic pool on Mt. Kemble Road, as he is affiliated with the hospital's Mind/Body Center.

Upon request, Charlie may also be available to travel to your private pool for sessions.

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) Techniques for Athletes

The Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) techniques of muscle lengthening and fascial release is a type of Athletic Stretching Technique that provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of major muscle groups, but more importantly - functional and physiological restoration of superficial and deep fascial planes.

Aaron Mattes' AIS technique is an effective treatment for deep and superficial fascial release, restoring proper fascial planes for optimal physiologic function. Performing an Active Isolated Stretch of no longer than 2.0 seconds, allows the target muscles to optimally lengthen without triggering the protective stretch reflex and subsequent reciprocal antagonistic muscle contraction, as the isolated muscle achieves a state of relaxation. These stretches provide maximum benefit and can be accomplished without resulting trauma or opposing tension.

Aaron is a personal friend and mentor of Charlie. Charlie has trained with Aaron for nearly 15 years and has made several trips to work in Aaron's clinic in Sarasota, Florida.
